Hello Saint Francis Brass,
We begin a new season this Sunday with a heavy heart with Doug’s recent passing. Dave tells us that Doug passed on Monday at 10:30am. I was probably sitting in our music closet at St. Francis surrounded by all of the music that Doug spent years collecting for us, pulling all the music for this coming Sunday’s rehearsal at that very moment. Mary Ruth and I had one last opportunity to visit with Doug at the hospital shortly after he was admitted on Friday August 21st. He seemed to recognize us but we had some communication challenges as he was struggling at that time. We will all miss him greatly.
John Morrison has provided a list of music to start the season. Four items are already in your folders and seven are familiar tunes we’ve played before. John has prepared a new Duke Ellington arrangement for us as well. You will find all of these in our Google Drive folders. I’ve removed everything from last year from our Google Drive folders. We would like to move to a policy where everyone prints out their own music. We do still have a lot of printed music in the back closet and I will make that available for folks, especially if you’ve turned it in to me in the past. If you’ve kept your copies, then please bring them with you to rehearsal.
Our first gig will be a church service on October 18th at St. Francis at 10:30am. There is a recent update to the calendar – we’ve got a December 6th Christmas concert at Jordan Oakes instead of a gig the following Sunday at the church. Please fill out the attendance sheet if you haven’t already done so, especially for the first few months of the year.
Here is the music for Sunday:
Currently in your folders from last year:
American In Paris – Gershwin
Exultation (March) – Allen
Just As I Am, Without One Plea – Skinner
Serenity – Ball

Rondeau – Mouret – Graham
Soli Deo Gloria – Himes
